Nutrients Content of Pure Honey

Currently honey is a food ingredient that is not only used to maintain health but also for other purposes such as skin care. Natural Sugar

Honey contains natural sugar consisting of fructose and glucose with 80% sugar in total.. While containing high calories, honey has a low glycemic index which means it can help to keep the blood sugar level stable.

Water Content

When the bees process the honeycomb into honey, the honeycomb removes the water content from the nectar and leaves only about 18 to 20% of the water content in the honey. Quality honey has water content of less than 20% and best quality honey tends to have less water content.

Vitamins and Minerals

In addition to containing natural sugars, honey also contains vitamins and minerals as well as pollen and protein, which is about 2% of the total weight of honey. The vitamins and minerals contained in honey can help metabolize fatty acids and cholesterol that occur in the body. The vitamins contained in honey include vitamin B6, thiamin, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin and other amino acids. While several types of minerals that are usually found in honey include calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and sodium. The darker the color of the honey, the higher the mineral content in it, for example manuka honey, which has a darker color.

Antioxidant

Another content of honey that should not be missed is the antioxidants in it. Pure honey is rich in phenolic acids and flavonoids which are a source of natural antioxidants and can be efficacious in counteracting free radicals that cause cell damage in the body. In addition, honey is also free of fat and cholesterol so it is safe for consumption in moderate amounts.
